"Ravenwood Meadow"

Ravenwood Meadow by Debra Joyce Dawson, Oil, 10 x 10

"Ravenwood Meadow"

Medium: Oil on RayMar Panel
Size: 10" x 10"

Arc of Appalachia's mission is to buy up as much land in an arc from the Highlands Nature Sanctuary to the Oho River that can maintain a healthy forest. The Ravenwood property sits a ways away from the Highlands Nature Sanctuary itself. It consists of a two story, modernly equiped house for rent, a barn, a second smaller outbuilding. A grassy lawn surrounds these buildings. On one side the lawn is bordered by a forest and an open meadow. The Ravenwood Listening Trail has a steep ascent and descent between canyon floor and the Rocky Fork Creek, and the bluffs.

Another feature of this location is the view depicted in the painting here. The meadow climbs the hillside and trees are reclaiming the area at the top as seen in the painting. It was gorgeous the day I painted this. Sunny and hot, but I stood in the shade of a large old oak in the middle of the gravel parking, cool as a cucumber and enjoyed a slight breeze. The orange butterfly weed had just come into bloom a few days before and coupled with seed heads on the grasses, and other nature plants, it provides an important habitat for birds and insects that make this world a better place.
