This painting was started in the intense heat at the end of June on a private estate. I won't lie, I'd just painted a hen house and the chicken sculpture was calling to me to be painting, too. I was a regal place to paint, sitting beside an 1837 house, surrounded by large trees, a pond, a vineyard, a Japanese pagoda, and a little log cabin! Never was there such rich material. But, the weather of torrential rains or intense heat, and mileage to drive to get to the site meant I had only a few paintings completed on site. The groundskeeper kept me company talking while I painted, telling me stories of the property and of his life.
This painting was part of a group exhibition, a collabortion between Sharon Weiss Gallery and the Fairfield Hertitage Association:
"OHIO ARTISTS OLD AND NEW" held in the Mithoff Building, Main Street, Lancaster, OH
