I've gotten back into painting still life during the Strada Easel Challenges. I used to do a lot of still life and spend up to two weeks on a small painting that I'd spend a considerable amount of time setting up my objects. No time for that during the daily painting challenge. The day before I painted this, I did a pen and ink, with ink washes, sketch in my book of an old dried up clementine and an apple core I'd just finsihed. I was intrigued by the apple core idea and decided to paint this idea in oils. Of course, first I had to eat another apple. After a while, with each bit, I'd stop to look at the shape of the core. I stopped when I got a shape I liked.
This is painted in mid-afternoon in natural light.
Currently on exhibition at the OAC Riffe Gallery Lobby, Columbus, OH.
