"Bombay Beach Poker"

Painted on my first trip to India, in 2005. Painted from the back yard of the lovely 78 year woman whose bed I shared for two nights. We didn't know each other, but that is India. People open their hearts to you, and offer you what they have. Maduballah was a singer in early Indian film, and recently received an award for her contribution to music in film. She sat beside me while I painted. These cowherds were playing cards on the beach. The tide was out, and the grungy scum where the water would be reflected wonderful colors in the late afternoon light.
