In 2013, I met a group of painters from England, in France. We spent 5 days painting on the Ile de Ré, an island off the coast of La Rochelle. There is a gleaming white harbor in the center of St. Marten-de-Ré, the town where we stayed, and I painted there quite a bit in 2006 with three women artists/friends. This time, I spent more time away from the harbor, on cobbled streets, lined with interesting houses adorned with colorful shutters, and all topped off with red tile. I found this street on my wanders and fell in love with it. This is the first of two paintings that I did of this street from the exact same spot.
